Grace Village Perambulation

 

This past week I have had cricket chirps as my lullaby as I get ready for bed. There are not as many flowers in the neighborhood late August. We are not done with summer, but things are winding down.

This afternoon I put on my newish Skechers slip-on shoes and took a walk over to the main campus and on to the pond (which Grace Village no longer owns). These shoes are comfortable, but I find them warm compared to the sandals I mostly have been wearing.

These berries are at the front approach to the Grace Village Main Building. They are just starting to turn pink.

A few open mallows over by the health care building, but a lot more dried up ones on the bush.

The neighborhood pond matches the Tidal Basin Pool in Washington D.C. with its green algae. 

I sat on my Rolloy several times when I could find shade. There are some canopies on the "patio" of Grace Village which give shade. I sat on the metal bench under the canopy as I headed away from home, but sat near the pond on the way home.

I decided I had gone further than I wanted to walk so I took a shortcut through C Hall, crossed the lobby, and exited out of B Hall. This saved me considerable steps. At the B Hall door there was a small planter with marigolds, a sunflower, and a U.S. flag. Grace Village went all out for the 250th birthday of the United States with flags at various entrances. 

Now that I am home again, I found myself sneezing. Nasty old ragweed pollen is in the air. Even though I take meds for allergies, ragweed had the most reaction when I was tested years ago and gives me problems. 

The neighborhood surrounding Grace Village is very walkable and peaceful. 

Beautiful Morning to Rolloy Around the Neighborhood

 

This morning it was sunny, low humidity with a slight breeze, and about 70 degrees when I set out for a walk in my neighborhood. I reside in a Grace Village condo in what they call Robin Hood. 

A lot of flowers are starting to peter out. But flags and a "duck" add color to this condo. We have 2-3 "ducks" in Robin Hood with wardrobes to match the weather or the season. 

I was surprised to see some lilies at the Community Center. Most people's lilies bloomed in June and July. 

Grace Village has purchased a few houses surrounding the condos that they lease out, also.

I use my Rolloy walker as the problems in my spine make it difficult for me to perambulate more than 15 minutes. This way I bring my own seat for resting.

I try to find a spot of shade in which to sit. There is a nice bench in between two condos, but I didn't want to walk on the wet grass and get my wheels all covered with clippings.

My husband and I sat on our front porch for lunch. In about an hour, we will head to the Igloo in Silver Lake for some ice cream. Summer is winding down. Now is the time for summer treats.

 This weekend my husband and I worked on a jigsaw puzzle his sister did and then passed on to us. I am not sure I would have picked this puzzle out for myself. It was challenging, but also fun to see all the different items.

 This might be a good time to share some of the photos that I have taken that have become my favorites. In another week my activities will start up again, and I will be busy.

Chairs Arrived Early

 

The Flexsteel recliners we ordered that were expected to arrive the third or fourth week of August arrived yesterday and were delivered today. We were still lining up and finalizing plans for our old recliners and had not yet bought the power strip. 

I borrowed the power strip from my laptop computer. We moved the old furniture into the den. We have someone interested in one chair; the other we will donate to Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

These recliners have power controls rather than manual levers.

I did not realize that they had the ability to charge up devices like my phone. There is a backup battery in case of a power outage so one can move from a reclining position to a sitting up position in order to extricate oneself from the chair. 

I knew from the sample I brought home that from a distance the chairs would look gray. Actually, the weave has blue in it.

Now there will be no thunk when I sit upright after my nap; I do not have to worry about waking up my husband from his nap if I get up first. 

My husband is interested in replacing the lamp. Otherwise, we are done sprucing up our home.
